Threads That Tell Stories
DhagaStory started with a simple thought: why is it so hard to find clothing inspired by Indian culture that I would actually want to wear every day?
There are so many little things from India that stay with us — a steel tumbler of filter coffee, a crowded train platform, nimbu-mirchi hanging outside a door, the chaos of an auto ride, familiar signs and streets, the sound of a pressure cooker from the kitchen, or a phrase that only makes sense if you grew up around it.
Growing up, none of these things necessarily felt special.
But after moving away from home, I started seeing those same little things differently.
You spot something familiar unexpectedly — at an Indian store, in someone’s home, in an old photograph — and suddenly, for just a moment, you’re back there.
That’s when I realized something:
Nostalgia doesn’t always live in the big moments. Sometimes, it lives in the smallest things.
And I wondered — what if we could take those little pieces of our stories and turn them into something we could carry with us?
Something modern. Something thoughtful. Something you would genuinely want to wear.
That idea became DhagaStory.
Dhaga means thread in Hindi, and it felt like the perfect word for what I wanted this brand to represent — the invisible thread connecting where we come from, the memories we carry, and the lives we’re building today.
At DhagaStory, every design begins with a story.
Sometimes it’s an object you instantly recognize.
Sometimes it’s a ritual you grew up with.
Sometimes it’s a place, a journey, a bit of humor, or an inside reference that makes another desi across the room look at your shirt and smile because they get it too.
We take these pieces of Indian life — the everyday objects, places, rituals, humor and memories — and reinterpret them through a modern design lens.
Because we don't want to make another souvenir T-shirt or put a cultural reference on a shirt simply because it's recognizable.
We want to make good clothing first — pieces you reach for because you love how they look and feel.
And then, when someone looks a little closer, there’s a story waiting for them.
Not souvenir tees.
Not cultural clichés.
Just good design with a story behind it.
I may have started my career working with numbers, but DhagaStory gave me a place to build something from a completely different part of myself — my creativity, my memories, and my connection to home.
Our inspiration may come from old streets, cafés, kitchens, journeys and traditions, but these pieces are made for the lives we’re living now.
Because you don't have to choose between where you're from and where you are.
You can move cities.
You can move countries.
You can build a completely different life.
But some threads always come with you.
And every thread has a story.
